Oral and poster communications presented by female researchers will receive special attention in the selection phase by the scientific committee with the aim of promoting gender diversity at the European level in the science field.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS
Oral and Poster Sessions are organized according to the following topics:
- organic magnetic materials
- inorganic, hybrid and multifunctional magnetic materials
- single-molecule magnets and single-chain magnets
- spin-crossover and photomagnetic compounds
- magnetic nanoparticles - biomagnetism and biomedical applications
- molecular clusters
- theory of molecular magnetism
- organized magnetic molecules, molecular electronics and quantum computation
- investigation techniques
- miscellaneous
- DEMOs – Magnetism Demonstrations
Oral Presentations: the standard allotted time for each presentation is 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for the discussion.
The computer slides must be written in English. It is not possible to use a personal laptop at the podium. Presentations must be prepared on PowerPoint (diskettes, CDs, USB pens) and delivered to the Slide Centre at least one hour before the beginning of the session, in order to be uploaded and directly transferred to the PC of the podium in the congress room.
Presentations on personal laptops will be allowed for plenary lectures only. They must be delivered to the Slide Centre at least three hours before the beginning of the session or the day before in case of a morning session.
These procedures will allow a smooth uploading of all presentations to the central computerised network and a swift transmission to the meeting room.
The Staff Members at the Slide Centre are also available to help those speakers wishing to rehearse their presentations.
Poster Presentations: posters must be written in English and no bigger than 70 cm wide and 100 cm high. The title of the presentation and the authors' names must be indicated at the top of the poster.
The poster display areas are located in the conference venue just near to the registration desk and conference room. It is absolutely forbidden to use drawing-pins, nails or similar tools to fix the posters to the boards; double-sided tape is available at the registration desk.
Poster sessions:
Poster discussion sessions are scheduled as follows:
Session 1 (S1) Sunday, September 21 (18.00-20.00)
Session 2 (S2) Monday, September 22 (14.00-16.20)
Session 3 (S3) Tuesday, September 23 (17.00-19.00)
The presenting authors must wear the personal badges and be present in the assigned poster area close to their boards in order to meet participants and respond to any question that the viewers may have.
Poster put-up/take-down procedures:
Posters must be put up on the assigned day and on the numbered board indicated in the abstract book, according to the following set schedule:
Session 1 (S1):
Poster put-up on September 21 (14.00-17.00)
Poster take-down at the end of the session or by 11.00 on September 22
Session 2 (S2):
Poster put-up on September 22 (11.00-13.30)
Poster take-down at the end of the session or by 12.00 on September 23
Session 3 (S3):
Poster put-up on September 23 (12.00-16.30)
Poster take-down at the end of the session or by 12.00 on September 24.
Posters left on the boards after the above indicated deadline will be removed and destroyed.
Poster Prizes: awards will be given for the best student poster presentations.
2008 DEMOS: MAGNETISM DEMONSTRATIONS
In keeping with the tradition started at the ICMM 2004 meeting, we have offered the opportunity to the participants to present experimental and video demonstrations concerning visually appealing phenomena associated with molecular magnetism.
Spreading scientific ideas and attracting attention of the general public and of the youngest participants is among the targets of ICMM. Since the 2004 edition the conference has included short sessions devoted to the presentation of demonstrations in molecular magnetism.
The International Advisory Committee and the Organizers of ICMM 2008 in collaboration with MAGMANet have decided to carry on the experience in Florence. The demos consist of video presentations or real-time experiments covering any attractive, spectacular and significant manifestation of molecular magnetism both in its chemical and physical aspects.
2008 DEMOs: New Features
For the first time the ICMM demo session will be open to a general public and children workshops. This session will be organized in collaboration with OPENLab, a Florentine ini-tiative for training primary and secondary schools' children and their science teachers and with the citizen awareness program of MAGMANet European network of excellence.
The demo presentations will take place on Thursday September 25 and will be located in the university campus in Sesto Fiorentino. They will be included in the frame of a wide audience lecture for a general public: selected children, primary and secondary schools' teachers, ICMM 2008 participants and invited Tuscan citizens.
They will be followed in the next days by a series of OPENLab experimental workshops where children will be able to perform themselves some selected experiments under the supervision of specially trained OPENLab teachers.
Conditions of presentation:
1) The experimental demos and videos will be included in the wide audience lecture of September 25 morning. Tables, basic electrical equipment, video and overhead projectors will be available. If you have other requirements or special needs (cryogenic fluids, chemicals, etc), contact the scientific secretariat in due time.
2) The participant is responsible for bringing all the materials and equipments necessary for the specific presentation, i.e. chemicals, devices, computers, beamers, etc. Liquid nitrogen will be available upon previous request.
3) Please choose visually appealing experiments characterized by (un)usual phenomena, spectacular colour changes, working devices, etc. Present them in an attractive manner.
4) Avoid potentially dangerous experiments and do not use organic solvents (no hood will be available). If organic solvents are compulsory, prepare a presentation inside sealed tubes together with a video.
5) "Experimental" posters describing the experiments are welcome in the frame of the poster sessions of ICMM 2008 and around the experimental demos lecture of September 25.
The way the experimental demos of the ICMM participants will be included in the wide audience lecture and even in the children workshops will be coordinated by M. Verdaguer and F. Villain (CNRS - IdF, Paris), A. Caneschi (INSTM Florence) and A.M Papini (University of Florence) who can be contacted through the ICMM scientific secretariat.
