The International Conference on Molecule Based Magnets is the biennial event
aimed to gather all the researchers active in the interdisciplinary and growing
field of "Molecular Magnetism".
Started at the end of the '80s Molecular Magnetism has the goal to design, to synthesize
and to investigate the properties of tailor made materials based on individual magnetic
building blocks formed by organic molecules, organometallic molecules or coordination complexes.
The outcomes of Molecular Magnetism are diverse, ranging from the tailoring of novel bulk
magnetic materials to the use of magnetic molecules in the exciting new field of molecular
spintronics, from the development of complex synthetic techniques to the implementation of
new sophisticated instrumentation for the investigation of nanostructures, from the
application of spin crossover systems to the development of biomimetic structures.
Covering in an efficient way so many diverse research areas requires a strongly
interdisciplinary approach.
Indeed Molecular Magnetism is a hot topic in both Chemistry
and Physics, and new developments are expected also in the biomedical field.
ICMM2008 aims to cover all the possible areas of Molecular Magnetism and to provide
a unique occasion for all chemists, physicists and materials scientists active in the
field to be informed on the last breakthrough results and to enjoy reviews covering
the most important areas of Molecular Magnetism and neighbouring research fields.
